       Good friends are there for you in good times and bad. 
       Sometimes it is nice to say thank you to your friends.  Is 
       there a better way to say thanks than with a handmade 
       card and a yummy candy bar?

       The image below is the finished product. As luck would 
       have it, I had cardstock that complimented the colors of 
       the candy bar's original wrapper.

Step 1: For this bar, dimensions for other bars will vary, I cut an 8 1/2 by 11" paper at 10 1/2" in length.  I scored the card stock and at 3 1/4", 3 1/2", 6 3/4", 7". 

To reproduce this, you will need to measure your bar and determine how wide and how thick it is to determine your sizes and scoring.










Step 2: Measure card stock to create the frame for the image. This should be slightly smaller than the base of the panel.

Step 3: Cut another piece of cardstock slightly smaller than the background panel (from Step 2) and adhere to the background panel. Here comes the fun!  

Step 4:  Run the run the Viva Tree Die [#903] from Poppystamps through a die cut machine on another piece of paper [color does not matter as you are not using the die cut but the empty space the die cut left behind].  

Step 5:  Carefully remove the tree. There will be two pieces that will fall out (see image below with arrows).  These pieces will fall out as they are not connected. Simply place your template over the image panel and using a temporary glue adhesive [I used a glue dot] and gently put them back in place and begin sponging into the area left empty by the tree.  Once the tree is sponged gently remove the template and the two extra pieces.  

       

Step 6:  Die cut the Sitting Cat Die [#860] by Poppystamps and use the card stock as a template and sponge a darker color for the cat.  You should not need to adhere the cat template.

Step 7:  Adhere your image panel [and background panel] to your candy bar cardstock wrap.

Step 8:  Add the greeting - trim a piece of the ivory (or white) card stock for the greeting.  I used Poppystamps So Much [CS308B] Cling Stamp.  I used a marker and colored the greeting and a leaf, then I selected three other colors and colored the additional leaves and finally a brown marker for the stem.  Stamp the greeting and adhere it to the colored panel slightly under the tree image to allow a little of the colored cardstock to peek through.

Step 9:  Finish it!  How you finish it is up to you.  I chose to use a burlap ribbon and simply tied a small knot and trimmed off the ends of the ribbon. This holds the card candy bar wrapper in place.  Other options include closing the wrapper with double sided tape, glue, glue dots, etc.  Using a ribbon to hold the wrapper closed keeps the bar from sliding out and allows the recipient to save your sentiment.

Above is a photo of the wrapper and the candy bar used. 
There are three colors of cardstock used, the wrapper (Step 1), the background panel (Step 2), and the image panel where you will do the ink sponging (Steps 5 & 6).  The image panel cardstock color is also used for the section where the greeting is stamped.

If you don't want to create a candy bar wrapper you can easily create a card and use this as the front panel and line the inside with a blank panel where you can personalize the card by handwriting a little note to the recipient.

Sparkling Snowflake -My 03 October Poppystamps Design Team Submission

Sparkling Snowflake

For my posting today, I went a simple route with the Giovanna Snowflake die.  I wanted to create a card that could be used for any type of winter holiday or as a general winter greeting.  I also wanted to let the die stand alone.  I hope you like it.

Adhesive of your choice, glitter, ink for sentiment, ribbon, ruler

How-to:

I created the card by cutting an 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper in half.  I then folded it so that the crease of the card was along the top.  

I placed the card, unfolded, into my die cutting machine and cut a the Giovanna Snowflake die out in the front of the card.  

I ran took the snowflake and coated it with glue and smothered it with glitter and let dry.  With some scrap cardstock of the same color as the card's base, I cut another snowflake and once again coated and smothered and placed out of the way to dry.

Next, I created the inside of the card (below).  I cut a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of card stock and placed it on the inside of the card and added the "May Your Holidays Sparkle" Cling Poppystamps stamp.  Be careful to place the stamp far enough down so that you can place the snowflake to align with the cut-out on the front of the card.

Once the glitter is dried, close the card, add a glue dot to middle of the back of the snowflake and place back into the cut-out area and press firmly.  Carefully lift the front of the card.  This will stick the snowflake into position on your greeting panel inside the card.

Cut another panel (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") in the same color as the base card (for me this was the dark blue) and paste it into place on the inside of the front of the card.  Then take your second snowflake, add a glue dot, and place it back in the die cut-out and press.  Now you have a snowflake on the front and in the same position inside the card.

To add a little something I took a ribbon and placed two strips across the front of the card.  If you like to add more bling or use something other than ribbon, the sky is the limit.  You could easily add some rhinestones, brads, buttons, whatever you desire.

Note: You may notice that I chose to leave the inside of my snowflake solid (I added the punched out areas back in) but you don't have to do that, it will easily work punched out.) Also, I covered the snowflake (on the clear stamp) with a post it so it wouldn't ink when I stamped the greeting since there is the main snowflake already on the panel.

Autumn Sunset - My Poppystamps Design Team Blog Submission for 13 Sept

Fall is my favorite time of the year with the variety of colors and slight chill in the air.  It is in the anticipation of Autumn that I designed this card featuring the Viva Tree Die new from Poppystamps.

 

This card can serve for masculine birthdays, Autumn greetings, a thank you card or, in the US, a Thanksgiving Card.  It could even serve as a sympathy card.

I created this card by creating a background with chalk pastels to create the sunset.  The cardstock was 5 1/2 x 4 1/4.  After the sunset is created, I adhered the single piece of cardstock to an A-2 sized card with a top fold that I made from a sheet of cardstock.

I ran the Woodland Fawn twice and the Viva tree die once in brown to create the tree for the card. Next, I ran the Viva tree die several more times with yellow, green, orange, and red cardstock. 

The Country fence die will need to be run through the die cut machine twice to fit an A2 card lengthwise.  To join the fence trim the second fence to where the tall fencepost is at the end and adhere to the last fence plank on the first fence.

This card is a quick card to produce as the colored Viva Tree die cuts provide enough leaves for several additional trees with only the brown main tree needing cut again.  I hope you enjoyed this card.

LET IT SNOW! - My 09 Sept submission to the Poppystamps Design Team Blog -

While we were blessed with a slightly cooler summer here in the mountains of Western North Carolina, my mind still looks forward to winter and snow.  For this posting, I chose to create a snowy holiday village.  This uses the new Holiday Village Stamp and corresponding (but sold separately) Holiday Village Die from Poppystamps.

Miscellaneous Supplies:

Adhesive- I used a liquid glue (snow/glitter), glue pens (touch ups as needed) and foam backed adhesive (for inside greeting).

Snow or glitter - To create the snow I used Polar White by Flowersoft; however, you could substitute a fine snowy glitter.

Rhinestones - added a bit of bling to the center of the snowflakes on each side of the "Let is Snow" greeting.

Ink & Embossing Powder - I used ink for the greeting and the snowflakes that is used as the easel inside the card.  I used Versamark clear to stamp the holiday village and then I used a dark brown embossing powder and a heat tool to set the embossing powder.  Then I used markers to color the trees and the village houses.  You could also use a brown ink and a clear embossing powder.

Technique:

This card is an easel card.  I cut a circle out of a light colored card stock and used chalk pastels to create the nighttime background.  

To create the backing for the holiday scene, cut out of a folded piece of paper into a circle (so the fold acts as your card by connecting the circles).  

Choose where to put your greeting (which acts as the stand for the scene when the card is open). This will help you determine where to fold the front circle of the card.  Once determined fold the front circle of the card accordingly and then attach your completed scene on top.

Easel card tips:  

You will need white cardstock (separate from the scene to create the village and then die cut it.  

Create the background night sky, adhere your die cut Holiday Village, then add your scene to your circle card.  

With the card open, carefully apply glue and then your snow. Allow to dry then affix your greeting inside the circle card.

Merry - My latest Poppystamps Design team posted on 9/7

The new Poppystamps dies are amazing!  For this post, I wanted to showcase the versatility of the Merry Dots die new from Poppystamps.

These three cards, each use the Merry Dots die, in different positions.  

The cards are each 3" x 3" and were designed to be used as in lieu of a tag to accompany a holiday gift. Each card uses the Poppystamps cling stamp "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" stamped inside on a white piece of cardstock.

To create the cards measure a piece of cardstock to 6" long and 3" wide.  

Score lengthwise at the 3" mark.  

Next determine where you want the fold.  The deer and the candle cards each have the fold at the top.  The green sleigh card has the fold on the left.  With the card in an unfolded position the Poppystamps Merry Dots die and run it through your cutting machine.  

If you wish to have a color showing through (deer card) then cut a different color of cardstock and adhere to the inside of the card.  Then chose a color for the inside to stamp your greeting.  

Now comes the fun --decorate the outside of your card.  The hardest part is choosing from all the exciting new Poppystamps dies.  What will you create?

Red Glitter Glue - For the candle card, I cut two sets of candles and cut the tips off to make the yellow look like a flame.  Then I applied a red glitter glue to make it look more like a flickering candle.

Rhinestones - added a bit of bling to the center of the poinsettias on the sleigh and deer card.

Ink - for stamping the greeting inside of the card.

Something is Brewing - Halloween

This card is a Halloween window where a cauldron is brewing something up for Halloween under the watchful eye of a black cat.

I love Poppystamps dies, as they are so versatile. In this card I cut the table down in height and cut the tips off the fence to give it a more "Halloweenish" feel.

I cut the branches from the Memory Box Orchard Frame Die and applied two of the three trees from the Memory Box Birch Trio.

Adhesives (glue, tape, circles or foam adhesives), scissors or paper trimmer to cut paper small enough to run through a die-cut machine, die-cut machine, black ink for stamping greeting inside card.

Prepare the frame:

Step 1:  Using Licorice sheet paper run the Orchard Tree Frame through your die cutting machine.  Trim out all but the center tree.

Step 2: Using Jack-O-Lantern card stock run the Debutante Frame through the die cutting machine.  Carefully attach the Orchard Frame to the Debutante Frame.

Step 3:  Run the Birch Trio through the die cutting machine and trim off one tree.  Attach the remaining two trees over the tree left in the Orchard Frame. This helps to hide it and secure the birch trees to the frame.

Prepare the Window:

Step 1:  Die cut in Licorice card stock the Madison Small Arched Window. Die cut the Sitting Cat (and 3 of the Walking Cat – you will use him later). Die cut the Ghosts, Cauldrons (you will use only the large one).

Step 2: Die cut in Meadow card stock the Bubbles and the ghosts.

Step 3: Die cut in White card stock the ghosts. Also cut enough white card stock to go behind the window. This is where you will assemble your scene. Place double sided adhesive tape to the back of the white card stock. This will make it easier to adhere later.

Step 4: Die cut in Jack-O-Lantern, the Pumpkins and the Bubbles.

Step 5: Die cut in Vanilla Bean the Aston Side Table.

Step 7: Assemble the components of the window and adhere to the white base. Attach with one level of foam adhesives the black window frame (Madison Small Arched Window) to the white backing over the scene. 

Step 8: Peel the strips from the back of the white backing and attach your window scene to your Debutante Frame.

Finish the Card’s Exterior:

Step 1: Cut the Grassland border in Dill card stock.

Step 2: Cut the Picket Fence in Licorice card stock.

Step 3: Weave both together a little and adhere to Debutante Frame.

Step 4: Add ghosts in Meadow, Licorice and White (that you cut earlier) randomly around the card. If you have the Bats die cut you could use some of those as well.

Complete the inside of the card:

Step 1: Using adhesive of our choice adhere the three Walking Cats you cut earlier.

Step 2: Stamp the “Witching You A Happy Halloween” stamp.  Then turn the stamp and stamp the witches hat that is located on the side of the greeting stamp.
