Card Concept Color Challenge #20

Happy World Card Making Day!  I began my interest in Paper Crafting thanks to my good friend Natalie in Germany!  I love World Card Making Day as a hobby unites people of all backgrounds.

I created this card as part of Newton's Nook link up for World Card Making Day, for the Card Concept Color Challenge #20 - Halloween colors of black, orange and white and for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge -- the finishing touch.

The design I chose was Clean & Layered Design as the card has several layers, embossing, white space as well as a colored image.  And I chose, Newton's Nook stamp set -- Newton's Perfect Pumpkin.  

The spider web and bat as well as the pumpkin face, Newton and the sentiment were embossed with clear Versamark and Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder in Black Soot.  Newton was colored white with a chalk marker.  His hat was colored with black and then Wink of Stella pen in clear glitter.  A light orange was applied to the brim of the hat.  Two Spectrum Noir markers were used to color the pumpkin before applying the Wink of Stella glitter pen again.

The card has several layers.  The main card is black with a matting of white.  Then a band of black and the orange layer with the embossing.  The image of Newton was cut and layered on a black mat.

Poppystamps and Card Maker Blog Hop: Happy Fall

Welcome to the Poppystamps and Card Maker Blog Hop!

I am super excited to be part of a an amazing group of talented ladies to bring you this blog hop.  If you are hopping along you should have reached me from Lezlye Lauterbach's blog.

My favorite season is Autumn and there is much you can do with it as a theme.  One of my favorite things to do is to reflect and give thanks.  Therefore, my offering for you today is a card themed around thankfulness.

This card is a standard A2 cardstock in a dark brown.  I layered a leafy patterned paper and then a harvest golden color of card stock.  Then I created an Autumn sunset with distressed inks on top of white cardstock.

I used Poppystamps Viva Tree Die [901] to create the tree and leaves.  I die cut the tree several times in a harvest orange, gold, green and dark brown to get extra leaves.  From there I cut of the leaves and attached them to the tree on the card.

Next I cut out a Poppystamps Woodland Fawn Die [1014] in a light brown followed by the Poppystamps Woodland Fawn Die [945].  I cut off part of the scarf that comes with [945] to create a shorter scarf for the baby fawn.

Finally, I stamped the Danke greeting on a cream cardstock and layers each size of the Classic Ribbons Die [1005].  After assembling the greeting, I trimmed off a little of the squared off end to shorten.  Then I attached it to the card with a small green bow on a paperclip.

To finish the card, I added a cream cardstock inside with Poppystamps' So Much Cling Stamp [CS308B] greeting stamped.  It may be a little difficult to see but I hand-colored the leaves, stem and greeting with markers of different colors to continue the multi-colored theme inside the card.

Christmas Folding Screen Card

Christmas Folding Screen Card

Greetings!  Today will be my last post as a Poppystamps Design Team Member.  It has been my pleasure creating for you over the past year.  For my final post, I selected a folding screen card. 

The folding screen card began with a piece of cardstock cut down to 5 1/2" by 11".  Then I scored at 2 3/4", 5 1/2" and finally 8 1/4".  Fold on the score lines so it will open as a screen.

Next I used the Poppystamps Grand Flower Box die to create the feet.  I centered the window box as shown in the image below and then ran it through my Big Shot.  I folded it in half so it would cut two at a time instead of running it through 4 times, I only had to do two.  Additionally, I ran it through before adhering the panels on.  

 

Next, I cut panels to line the screen.

I cut four panels in the following sizes:

2 1/2" x 4 5/8"

2 3/8 x 4 1/4"

I chose to alternate colors but you can use all the same. The smaller of the two sizes above is approximate for the height. I had to trim off just a skosh from the bottom so there would be a border.   After cutting I adhered the two colors together and then adhered them to the screen.

Next, I cut white cardstock into an 8 1/2" x 4" section and used the Poppystamps Puffy Cloud Border die to create a mask. I used the mask in various positions and sponged a turquoise color to create one big panel of sky.  Once completed, I cut four sections to 2 1/8" x 4" and numbered the back so that when I reassembled it on the card, the sky would appear continuous.  Then I adhered each section to the appropriate panel.

Once you have added the innermost panel, then you can decide what scene you would like to create.  I kept it pretty simple using the Poppystamps Snow Flocked Tree for panels 1 and 4.  Then I used Poppystamps Santa's Magic Sleigh for the panel 2 followed by both Poppystamps Woodland Fawn Dies.

To finish, I used the Merry Christmas greeting from the Poppystamps Merry Christmas Background.

To add more pizazz you could cut some small squares and tie some twine around them as presents in Santa's sleigh or add some ornaments from Poppystamps Christmas Baubles Die [1040] or some flocking on the branches of the tree.

Spooky Nights

I recently received a black cat candy jar as a gift from a dear friend.  This provided me the inspiration to create a spooky sky under which black cats prowl.  

For the sky, I used a brayer and a light pink inkpad to cover white cardstock that would become the front of the card.  Next I used the brayer and covered most of the cardstock with a light purple ink. After which I switched to a sponge and sponged on a medium blue, followed by a dark blue and then by dabbing dark purple. 

Then I used the Poppystamps Puffy Clouds Border [1099] cut diagonally across card stock to give a different look to the clouds.  To add a bit of fog to the sky, I used a bright white ink and sponged around the mask and alternated with sponging the dark purple.

After the sky was done, I drew two hills and cut them out with scissors and adhered them to the card with foam squares to give dimension.  Carefully, I tucked sections of the Poppystamps Brevilla Houses [1009] behind the green hills and adhered with foam adhesives.

Then I proceeded to cut out the Poppystamps Antique Lamp Post [858], the cats (Poppystamps Sitting Cat [860], Walking Cat [859] and Curious Cat [872]).

For the moon, I drew a circle and cut it out and adhered it with my glue pen.

Next, I cut out the Poppystamps Fireplace Logs [1072] logs with brown cardstock and the Poppystamps Warm and Cozy Fire [1070] in white cardstock.  To create the flames, I colored the white cardstock with Copic markers.

 I decided to add a bit of Halloween to the scene by using BOO from the Poppystamps Scary Background Die [1078]. I used a glue pen and put the letters on a diagonal and slightly off-center to give it more of a spooky look.

Halloween Greetings

I love the new Poppystamps - Scary Background [1078] die.  Background die cuts are great for a quick card.  Just add a few stickers/embellishments or other die cuts and you have a quick haunting greeting.  What is even better is that you have all the letters from the die to use as a greeting on other cards.  

For my post today, I used some spooky embellishments [stickers] to make it appear as if something was lurking behind the letters.  Bats and googlie eyeballs are watching you. Open the card if you dare...

Welcome to my blog!  You probably arrived here from Christine Meyer's blog.  I hope you are enjoying your blog hopping today.  There is a lot of great inspiration yet to come and a few prizes are up for grabs from courtesy of Poppystamps and The Twinery!  

For my post today, I am jazzing up a gift container.  You can use any container from tin (even an empty tin from mints if you do not want to purchase a tin or a glass jar/bottle).  I used Maraschino Twine from The Twinery to give it a festive holiday feel.  Then I turned to the [1097] Poppystamps Stocking Garland die from Poppystamps' recent release.

Supplies you will need: 

Poppystamps dies, I used 1097 Stocking Garland
Twinery Twine, I used Maraschino Stripe Twine
Embellishments (I used gold star brads)
Adhesive (glue works best to adhere twine to the container)
Container to decorate
Foam adhesives
Card stock

How I did it:
I used a tin that I had on hand.  To give you an idea of size of the tin that I used,  I was able to put a variety of items inside. I tested it by filling it with gourmet tea bags or truffles or small wrapped gourmet chocolate squares, hard candies, etc.

Another fabulous use of a small tin is to surprise your favorite crafting buddy with some Poppystamps dies!  I was able to put in a couple dies even with a little bit of padding.  Some ideas? Well the Christmas Baubles [1040], the Lyndon Butterfly [1059] or even the Theo Butterfly  [1060].

I used a glue adhesive circle to hold the end of the twine and then I used glue lightly to keep the twine on the tin.

As you wrap you may need to push the twine down to keep any gaps from forming.  You can also vary the colors of twine or twist the twine to create a pattern.

Next, I wrapped the sides of the lid.

While the glue was drying, I cut and heavily glittered paper.  Then I added some gold star brads and finished with the 1097 Stocking Garland from Poppystamps.  To adhere it, I used a slightly larger piece of paper and the foam adhesive squares to give the scene a little depth.

Welcome to Poppystamps Blog Blitz!

I hope everyone [in the USA] had a great 4th of July celebration.  While most of the country was thinking of traditional American summer food, I was thinking toward cool temps and Halloween.

This card leverages some wonderful new dies from Poppystamps latest release.  The first of which is the Classic Brick Fireplace.  This versatile die can be used for a Christmas Fireplace awaiting Santa or, in this case, a spooky fireplace awaiting a cauldron of wicked potions.

I love the new Spider Web Border die.  I placed it on the top of the card and trimmed the rightmost edge off.  This was perfect to put in the corner of the fireplace.  

Next,  I ran the Fireplace logs die through in a dark brown color for the logs.  Then I built the fire by running the Warm and Cozy fire through red, orange and yellow cardstock.  I stacked several layers of the flames to provide a big fire.  

Then I cut two cats and placed them on top of the mantel.  To spice it up a little bit, I added rhinestones in the center of the webs and as a collar on one of the cats.  I only had clear rhinestones so I used an orange marker and colored them to make it more along the color theme of Halloween.

I finished the card by using Boo from the Scary Background die.  I hope you enjoy this card and find a couple of Poppystamps dies from the new release that will make your Halloween extra spooky!

With Best Wishes

My card for you today could be used for a variety of occasions including birthdays, to express thanks or, in the case of this card, I used a sticker sentiment to express best wishes.

I used the Tulip Fanfare and ran it through with a few colors for pink and purple tulips. I also cut the tulips to layer into the window box.  I used one of the shapes that are leftover from the Meso Background to add interest on the wall inside the window.
